Watercolor illustration of a modern steel hydroelectric turbine emerging from a medieval wooden water wheel.

HCI Illustrations

Hydro Review often carried articles about upgrading equipment in a hydroelectric plant. This cover suggests the evolution of a modern Francis turbine from an old waterwheel. I learned to paint woodgrain as a twelve-year-old from a Jon Gnagy Learn to Draw kit that my parents gave me one Christmas. This image always reminded me of older covers of Scientific American magazine, which often used handsome, buttoned-down cover illustrations to convey the latest scientific discoveries.
